Nothing is more critical to how well your planer fishing rigs fish than the sea witches used to rigged them. The make a huge difference. This video dissects the sea witches and what colors to use for various water colors to the Nth degree. You will learn about color combinations for both blue water and green water. Blue water is clean and green water is dirty. Which colors you fish are to a large extent determined by the color of the water. Now, this is where things get a tad esoteric. Just because the water looks green, it may in fact be blue a few feet down. This is something that you really need to determine. You can this by looking at your prop wash or by experimenting with sea witch colors until you dial in a bite pattern. The one thing you need to understand is the water and the anatomy of your planer fishing rig. This video will show you several sea witch colors that work well in either color water and the combinations of those colors that will put fish in your boat. You will also learn about the tendencies for both king mackerel and wahoo. What color water they like and what to do if the reef or structure you are fishing is covered over with green water. Should you move offshore until you find blue water or is that nonsense. We will discuss the best times of day to fish for king mackerel, in what depth and how the fish move as the day heats up. When you finish with just this one video on planer fishing, you will know way more than the average guy. This is the type of information that cuts you learning curve way down and helps put you on fish.

There are a load of companies that sell the hair that sea witches are made from, so we art not going to get into procuring the hair bundles. Instead, our primary focus is on color. Does hair color matter? Everyone has their favorites. When you get down to it, there are some standard color combos for green and blue water fishing. Ok, so how do you pick a sea witch for a certain clarity of water. We are going to separate our presentation to isolate and discuss colors for dirty water and then clean water. It is really important to fish the right color and know when to switch colors. When it comes to fishing in green water, you want something that stands out. Colors and combinations of green, chartreuse, white, crystal and pink are winners. We will show some combinations of these colors in the video. For blue water, you want to think about offshore colors. The colors of the fish that roam there. Crystal again, blue, pink and black in various combinations a great choices. Just like the green water colors, we will show you winning combos. We will address why certain colors work well in blue or green water. The more you know about the water, the more fish you are going to catch. One thing that is often over looked is that even though the water may be green on the surface, it may very well be blue a few feet down. This trips up a lot of fishermen. So, if you are fishing green water and not getting bites, switch up your colors and see if blue water colors produce. It is critical to understand the water and the sea witch colors to use. Do not be afraid to experiment. Change colors until you get a bite. The worst thing you can do is fish green water where you are marking fish with green color combinations and not catch fish. Use the information we are sharing to up your game. If you know the anatomy of what you are fishing, you are way ahead of many fishermen that are just going for long boat rides. This In The Spread video and other planer fishing videos in our library show you the rig up close and ways to fish them with success. Part and parcel with understanding planer fishing rigs is knowing how to fish them. In that vein, we will touch on some of the mechanics. This includes the best times to fish for mackerel, the productive depth of water to fish, how fish deeper as the day heats up and the size planers to use. Planer size is determined by how deep the fish are. If you have fished enough, then you know that the water changes day to day and you will find temperature or current breaks where green water and blue water may be right next to each other in a very defined way. When you see this trolling around, which side should you troll? Should you fish the blue side or the green side? This is kind of important to know. Don't you think? Here is a bit of fish knowledge. Mackerel love the green water and wahoo love the blue. So, when you come upon a nice color break, it behooves you to fish both sides. These game fish predators are going to be where the food is seeking refuge. Structure is usually that refuge, but sometimes it can be murky water. If you fish the eastern Atlantic Ocean, you know full well that we are at the mercy of the winds and current. The reef may have green or blue water on any given day. The blue water may be 7 or 8 miles offshore. What to do? Stay on the reef, fish the green water and change your colors until you get bites and then go with the hot color. Dialing in the hot color is key. A useful way yo determine whether the water is blue below the green surface water is to look at the trail your wake makes. If you see a cleaner trail, that's a good indication that only the surface water is green. If you want to learn more about fishing with planer fishing, stay curious.
