Tides are an important part of fishing on Florida's Gulf and the Nature Coast.

Tides are an important part of fishing and boating on Florida's Gulf and the Nature Coast. As we get closer to the end of the month it will be at the full moon. Full moons and new moons have a big influence on the intensity of how much or how less the Gulfs waters will move. Wind is another factor that can push or pull water east or west and with the moon it can double down either direction. Getting to my point, we are going into this scallop season on a full moon, meaning on the low tide it should be extra low making it easier to see and gather them. The word on the street from some local captains who have done some scouting is that it's better then last year. I, myself, have not gotten in the water to check, but I sure hope it is.

Inshore the best bite is redfish and the key to finding them is mullet. Look for mullet jumping or in long strings around the key. Shrimp or pinfish is the best bait. Offshore the bite has been good for red snapper and gag grouper at 30 to 60 feet. High incoming tide this weekend will be around noon on the new moon.
