How to Catch Muskie - Fishing Videos

Where do you start with the question of how to catch muskie? This may be the most hotly debated topic in musky fishing. Clearly, everybody wants to catch fish, but with a species that is known as the fish of 10,000 casts, catching them is not so straightforward. Shallow water, deep water, skinny water, creeks, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, warmer water, cooler water, pre-spawn, post spawn, sunny, cloudy, the variance in conditions makes for a multitude of answers. How and what do you present? The number of lure and bait options for muskie fishing rivals that of bass fishing.

Is there a fish that confounds fishermen more than a muskie? Maybe blue marlin. But, here's the difference. You usually don't know if a marlin is following your presentation because the mechanics of fishing for blue marlin is far more involved. With a musky, there is a tendency to see the fish come up on your lure very near the surface and the boat. Many times it happens right next to the boat. You get to see the fish and then watch as it rolls off and disappears. Aaaah, you had a follow. How many times have you had a musky appear behind your lure, only to watch as it fades into the void? How do you go about triggering bites from seemingly disinterested fish? Experience, it all comes down to situational experience.

The more time you spend on the water fishing, the better you should get. I say should, because not every fishermen gets better. If you are not analyzing your successes and your failures, you are probably missing a ton of valuable intel on how to improve.

When I look around at all the great musky fishermen I know, they all share one common trait. They all spend more time on the water targeting muskellunge. They are as good as they are because they have spent years thinking about and fishing for musky. By catching more and seeing more fish than I ever will, their depth of knowledge exceeds mine. This is more than likely true for you. So, how do you get good at catching muskie, if you don't have the time or money.

Not every angler is afforded the time they desire on the water. Life, family and work whittle away at the time we have to go fishing. I won't kid myself.
